Campus expertise.
A lower-carbon future.
Broad Oak completed heating infrastructure upgrades across four University of Bradford buildings, preparing teaching, research and conferencing facilities for a lower-temperature district heat supply.
The challenge.
Understood.
The university needed to adapt existing heating infrastructure for district energy within a live campus. Sensitive teaching and research facilities made careful coordination just as important as the technical installation.

Expertise.
In every detail.
Appointed by 1Energy, we delivered the work across the Norcroft Conferencing Centre, Institute of Cancer Therapeutics, Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation and Richmond Workshop. Our team decommissioned existing heating infrastructure and installed new low-temperature hot-water pipework, risers and connection points. We coordinated the installation across the four buildings, with day-to-day supervision focused on the needs of each facility. Pressure, flow and thermal performance testing brought the work through commissioning, completing the building-side retrofit needed to prepare these facilities for the Bradford Energy Network.
- Existing heating infrastructure decommissioned
- New low-temperature hot-water pipework and risers
- Connection points for the district heat supply
- Coordinated installation across four campus buildings
- Pressure, flow and thermal performance testing
The difference.
Delivered.
The completed retrofit gave four different campus buildings the infrastructure needed for a lower-temperature heat supply. It advanced the university’s preparations for the Bradford Energy Network while bringing a consistent, tested approach to the building-side heating works.
