Two buildings.
Ready for district energy.
Broad Oak delivered heating, hot-water and controls upgrades across Bradford College’s David Hockney Building and Advanced Technology Centre, preparing two contrasting teaching environments for the Bradford Energy Network.

The challenge.
Understood.
Teaching spaces, workshops and laboratories placed different demands on the two buildings. The retrofit needed to bring emitters, plant, air handling and controls together for district-energy operation, rather than treating each system in isolation.

Expertise.
In every detail.
Working with FairHeat, our in-house team renewed pumps, pressurisation and expansion equipment, adding filtration, water-quality monitoring and metering. Across 308 radiator valve positions, we replaced 161 radiators and retained 147, introducing pressure-independent control. We delivered the AHU upgrades, hydraulic reconnections, underfloor-heating works and BMS integration as one turnkey package. Hot-water improvements included thermal balancing in the David Hockney Building and revised provision in the Advanced Technology Centre. Balancing, testing and commissioning brought the mechanical and controls installations together across both buildings.
- Plant, pump, pressurisation and water-quality upgrades
- 161 new radiators and 147 retained radiators
- Pressure-independent radiator and differential-pressure controls
- In-house AHU upgrades and hydraulic reconnections
- Hot-water balancing and provision improvements
- BMS integration, balancing, testing and commissioning
The difference.
Delivered.
The completed retrofit brought heating, hot water, air handling and controls into a coordinated installation across both college buildings. It prepared the campus systems for district-energy operation, with integrated metering and monitoring giving operators greater visibility of how the buildings use heat.
