The challenge.
Understood.
Cast-iron radiators, one-pipe heating circuits and 23 air-handling units made this a building-wide engineering task. The upgrade had to support lower-temperature heating while respecting the existing fabric and coordinating installation around the council’s civic and office activities.

Expertise.
In every detail.
Working with FairHeat, we upgraded the two main basement plant rooms with six variable-speed circulation pumps, side-stream filtration, four heat meters and corrosion monitoring. We renewed controls across more than 300 existing radiators throughout the building, converted selected one-pipe circuits and fitted pressure-independent valves to 23 AHU heating coils.
Seven new basement radiators provided controlled heat as previously exposed pipework was insulated. We added ProEconomy hot-water treatment and integrated the plant, metering and Guru monitoring with the BMS. Our in-house team brought the mechanical, electrical and controls work through balancing, testing, commissioning and handover, preparing the building for a 75°C flow and 50°C return design basis.

A civic landmark.
A considered retrofit.
A heat-network retrofit built around City Hall’s existing fabric, civic spaces and day-to-day operations.

The difference.
Delivered.
City Hall gained a coordinated heating installation with renewed hydraulic control, water-quality protection and clearer visibility of heat use. The completed secondary works prepared this civic landmark for the Bradford Energy Network, while retaining existing radiators and bringing the supporting systems together through one accountable team.
